1.) If you could change one thing in the book - what would it be and why?
2.) What recommendations do you have for Alexie if he were to write another young adult book?
3.) Did the illustrations help you understand the book?  Why or why not?

Day Ten (2/15)

Good morning students.  Yes, I am gone today helping out with the lottery (aka how new students get into our school district).  Please have a great day with the sub.

REMEMBER - Instructions for today are in Mr. Ruggles > Share Folder > Sub Notes 2/15

Today's question:
Last night you read about Junior playing the rematch basketball game against Rowdy.  In the end they ended up winning.  However, at the end of the chapter Junior remarks that he felt shame: "I was crying tears of shame" (196).

Why does Junior feel shame after beating his biggest rivals?
What does this mean about Junior's future with Rowdy?
Would you feel shame in that situation?  Why or why not?

Day Nine (2/14)

Everyone at some point in their life gets made fun of and called names.  In college my friends gave me a hard time because I had to dress up to go to work and they were wearing jeans and a t-shirt.  In PT Indian Junior is constantly being made fun of.  His friends from the Rez do not leave him alone - except at the Wake.  He sometimes gets called an Apple - red on the outside and white on the inside.  Other people may also be called Oreos, weird, crazy, different, or any number of other names.

What advice would you give Junior to overcome this name calling?
What do you do when people look at you different or call you names?
How do you get through?

Day Seven (2/9-10)

The last chapter that you read/reviewed for today was only two pages long (pages 150-151).

1.) Explain the meaning of the title - "And a Partridge in a Pear Tree"
2.) What does Junior realize about his dad
3.) There are no images in this chapter - Why do you think this is?  What image/images would you add if there needed to be some?

Day Six (2/8)

Free write about anything school appropriate for the time.

Eight sentence minimum.

Day Five (2/7)

Happy Super Bowl Monday!

In the next chapter we figure out the meaning of the title of this book - The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian.  Even though you may not have read this chapter yet, try to figure out what the title means.  Use evidence from the book to support your thoughts.

Day Four (2/4)

Consider Junior's situation at the end of our reading lately - He likes Penelope, but both of his friends don't think he has a shot.

What type of relationship advice would you give Junior so that he could improve/have/get a relationship with Penelope?  Why would you give that advice?

Day Three (2/2-3)

In PT Indian Penelope states that she is dating Junior only because he "is something different" and that it "annoys her father."

Describe a few times when you did something only because it was different or because you knew it would annoy your parents.  What was their reaction?  What happened in the end because of your actions?

Day Two (2/1)

In our pages read for today Junior receives an e-mail from his sister.  She could have called, but she didn't.  Why?

In what different ways do you communicate with people?
Are they different based on who you are talking to?
Do you still hand write letters?
Who do you text?
Who do you call?
Who do you Skype?
Why do you use the different formats?
