Over the weekend you should have completed your final project over The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night time. As we move forward into our second unit today, any lingering thoughts about this book?
What did you enjoy about reading it?
What did you not enjoy?
What things did you learn?
What will you remember about this book in the future?
You should have finished CI and today please respond to one or two of the following questions:
What do you have to say about the writer’s style?
What would you ask the writer if you had a chance?
How might others (e.g., colonial settlers, women) interpret the piece?
What other pieces/books does this remind you of? Why?
Does anyone see this piece from a different perspective? What perspective and why?
I hope that you had a wonderful weekend and that you enjoyed the snow too!
Your question for today:
Over the weekend you read about Christopher beginning his trip to London. Tell me about a memorable trip that you have taken and how you got there - train, car, boat, helicopter.
Please continue to remember that spelling, grammar, etc. all count!
I hope you enjoyed your workday yesterday. Please note that you need to complete your homework outside of class and that coming to class with it not finished will result in a poor grade in the future. Please also keep up with your reading.
Today we will be moving forward on our discussion of relationships in popular culture and then we can turn our eyes to CI tomorrow to apply our knowledge. For today's journal I want you to reflect on these four different questions (they should look familiar):
"Dawson's Creek" - Joey and Jack
1.) Describe the relationship (what you see, hear, feel, etc.)
2.) What characteristics make this an example of a good relationship?
3.) What characteristics make this an example of a bad/poor relationship?
4.) What can you learn from this relationship?
To answer these questions I have a clip from a popular 90's television show called "Dawson's Creek." Please direct your eyes to the SMART Board....
The two main characters here are Jack and Joey. Please answer the four questions above in your English 9 Journal. Reminder that spelling, punctuation, and grammar all count.
Pull out your books and open up to chapter number 151 in CI (page #100). Wait for further directions.
Your questions for today:
1.) Why do you think that Christopher would write this chapter?
2.) Why would Mark Haddon, the author, want to include this chapter in the book?
+Consider the point of this chapter...What does this chapter accomplish?
Thanks! Please remember to use complete sentences and double check your spelling and grammar.
When you are done:
Save your journal
Put it into Mr. Ruggles > Dropbox
Study silently for your reading quiz over pages 48-102
In your reading last night you found out something very shocking and unexpected about Christopher’s mother. Put yourself in Christopher’s shoes:
1.) How would you react to the news?
2.) Would you continue your investigation?
3.) What would you say to your dad the next time you saw him?
Please remember looking at the journal examples yesterday!
In CI on pages 46-47 Christopher writes about his “Behavioral Problems.” Even though some of the items on this list may seem peculiar or odd to you each and every one of us has unique likes and dislikes.
Make a list of five of your own dislikes and five likes using Christopher’s list as a guide.
